The 122nd constitution amendment bill to roll out GST has been sent to the states for their ratification after it received Parliament’s nod. While, 3 states have already ratified the bill – Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand; 11 more states have given their consent to it.
The states that have announced there intent to ratify GST Bill are:
1. Trinamool Congress (TMC)-led West Bengal
2. Congress-led Karnataka
3. Telangana Rashtra Samithi-ruled Telangana
4. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Delhi
BJP Ruled or Alliance States
7. Madhya Pradesh
11. Andhra Pradesh (National Democratic Alliance (NDA) member, the Telugu Desam Party)
While some states such as Gujarat, Delhi, West Bengal and Haryana intend to pass it in current session or through special session, few states see it passing only in winter session. “If at all the state considers ratifying the GST bill, it will happen only in the winter session, likely to be held in November or December,” said D.K. Shivakumar, senior Congress leader and Karnataka energy minister.
