A special one-day sitting of the Odisha Legislative Assembly was convened today to ratify the 122nd Constitutional Amendment Bill on the Goods and Services Tax (GST). The Bill was passed unanimously.
Odisha becomes the 16th state to pass the Bill. With this, required number of states (16) to ratify the bill has been achieved. It will now be sent for presidential assent.
The CM said that a number of benefits are expected to accrue not only to the Centre and State government but also to the consumers, business and industry.
Going forward, next three months will be very crucial for the Modi led BJP government as it gets down to finalize the supporting legislation—the central GST law, the integrated GST law and the state GST law. The government is aiming to table the central GST law and the integrated GST law in the upcoming winter session of Parliament expected to start in November.
