8th (two day) meeting of all important GST Council concluded today without any significant headway on open issues.
GST Council discussed IGST Law at length. However, some issues remain unresolved. GST Council would meet again on 16th January in hope to form consensus.
“We know the difficulty, we are moving against time that is why we are meeting on 16 January. Definition of territory and dual control are two key issues that are pending,” Jaitley said after the GST council meeting.
On the roll out timeline, Kerala’s FM said “Working overtime, it should be possible to meet the deadline of September. I am not very optimistic about rolling GST out in June/July. Because it is a new tax and lot of complexity involved, it would be better to move in after full preparation. So GST, to my understanding, will be implemented from September,”
FM Arun Jaitley is hopeful of solving dual control issue in next GST Council meeting.
