FM Arun Jaitley led GST Council have met seven times in recent past and made some headway on finalization of GST laws and compensation formula. However, a major issue that continues to elude GST Council of consensus is administrative control.
Sources suggest that government and opposition have been in contact through informal meetings to find way forward on pending issues. Formally, GST Council is to hold a two day meet beginning tomorrow.
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the party was constantly communicating with West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra, who is the chairman of the empowered committee of state finance ministers.
In meeting beginning tomorrow – GST Council is expected to form consensus on Dual Control administration and discuss IGST Law. Thereafter, present the laws before parliament in budget session.
On the GST implementation deadline, while the government is still all up with April 1 date. However, our sources suggest that July 1 is the date everyone is practically looking at.
