Government will proceed to seek Presidential assent for the GST Constitution amendment bill as 16 states have ratified the legislation, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said.
“The requisite number of states have ratified the GST Constitution Amendment Bill and now it can go for Presidential assent,” Jaitley tweeted.
Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia said that the government is walking faster than expected on implementation of GST. “Instead of 30 days kept for this (states’ ratification), it is achieved in 23 days,” he said in a tweet.
After the Presidential assent, the government will proceed to notify the GST Council. Union Finance Minister will be the head of the Council. It will comprise of state Finance Ministers.
